Kiwi Update

Well my last Kiwi Plants died, so this time I am going to take even greater care to get these to grow nicely. Stark Brothers were very kind on giving me some replacement plants - for free! Stark Brothers entitle customers to a free once only replacement if they are not fully satisfied. Well I took them up on it and they had the plants in the mail that week - no questions asked!

I have got a square foot of good earth and compost. I put weed block on top to prevent the squirrels from digging up the plant.

I will be training them up that vertical bit of wire. It worked last year until the plants died.
The plant above is in the shade at the moment - but as soon as it gets taller it will have full sun. Come on Kiwi! Grow!!

This Kiwi is around the front of the deck. It should grow the better out of the two as it has full sun. We shall see...
If they do reach the top of the trellis then I will have to buy some wood to strengthen the thing.
The plants can get pretty heavy (up to 200Lb each plant with fruit). So that is a potential weight of 400lb.
There is no way presently that the cross beams will hold my weight - let alone a potential of 400lb.

I need the plants to grow BIG as I am relying on these things to give me shade on the deck. This will nullify the need for an umbrella.
